NOTICE OF RACE

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing except as changed by the sailing instructions. This is a Sonar Class Association Appendix B Alternative Rules event.

1  ADVERTISING

Advertising will be governed by ISAF Regulation 20

2  ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1   The regatta is open to all boats in the Sonar, 2.4mR and SKUD-18 classes.

2.2    Eligible boats shall enter in advance by, THURSDAY, NOV. 23, 2017 by  registering online on the SPYC website at www.SPYC.org  thru yachtscoring.com

2.3   Boat check-in will be held at SPYC on Thursday, NOVEMBER 30, 2017 at 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Sailing Instructions will be available at that time.

2.4   Skippers must be able to show proof of current membership in their class associations.

2.5   Late registration may be held at the St. Petersburg Sailing Center (SPSC) Friday, DECEMBER 1, 2017 at 0800,  only with prior approval from the Regatta Chairman, or PRO.

3  FEES 

The entry fee for a 2.4mR:     $USD $80

Sonar :           $USD $240

5  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing instructions will be available at Boat Check-in on Thursday November 30 at SPYC between 4:00 and 6:00 pm

6  VENUE

6.1   Boats will be launching from the SPSC on Demen’s Landing, 250 2nd Avenue SE. Racing will take place on Tampa Bay, east of downtown St Petersburg.

6.2   SPSC Rules require sailors and/or coaches to make special arrangements with the Sailing Master via e-mail for the unloading, parking and loading of trailers. Vehicles, trailers and boats left in the Sailing Center more than 48 hours after the termination of the event may be towed at the owner’s expense unless prior arrangements have been made.

6.3   Competitors who are not members of SPYC or SPSC must sign a Sailing Center Liability Waiver Agreement prior to racing.

7  COURSES

Triangles, trapezoids or windward/leeward course may be sailed.

8  SCORING

The scoring system will be the low point scoring system of RRS, Appendix A, except that no score will be excluded unless five or more races have been completed. A minimum of three races must be completed by a class to constitute a Regatta.

9  PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each class, providing there are at least five boats in each class.

10   PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICES

Personal flotation devices, PFDs, must be worn from dock to dock except for brief periods to adjust clothing. For contestants from the United States, the PFD shall be Coast Guard approved. Foreign competitors shall wear PFDs that are Coast Guard approved or PFDs approved by their sponsoring countries.

11   HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS

The sailing instructions may specify cleaning and haul-out restrictions.

12   ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS

A boat may be equipped with working VHF radios capable of communicating on channel 16, 63 and 72. Except in the event of an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats, except as modified by the sailing instructions. This restriction also applies to cell phones.

13   DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:  Competitors participate in the regatta at their own risk. See RRS rule 4, Decision to Race. The St Petersburg Yacht Club, organizing authority, sponsors, race committee, officers and board of directors of SPYC, and all those involved in these organizations will not accept any Liability/Responsibility for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after this regatta.

FCYC Reciprocal Members may use their Yacht Club number.

SPYC requests everyone who does not have reciprocity should obtain a Guest Card at the Front Desk using a Visa or MasterCard credit card. This can be done online www.SPYC.org  On the home page click on the menu item “sailing”. Scroll down and click SPYC Guest Card. Fill out the information and click:” submit”. The Club requests you and your crew submit your request for club cards 48 hours in advance of the Regatta. Pick up your card upon arrival at the Club.
