This year’s regatta travelled to La Belle Province and was hosted by Pointe Claire Yacht Club (PCYC), Pointe Claire (Montreal), Quebec the weekend of June 1st-June 2nd. PCYC is located in the village of Pointe Claire, on Lake St. Louis, a lake that is part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The club has three 2.4mRs and is looking to grow its fleet.
Representation from Royal Hamilton Yacht Club, Nepean Sailing Club, Kingston Yacht Club, National Yacht Club, Woodstock, Connecticut and Randolph, New Jersey, totaling 14 boat owners, competed at this event.
Race conditions were quite variable throughout the weekend. Race Officer Madeleine Palfreeman was presented with challenging conditions on Saturday, June 1st. It was an extremely hot and humid day with very light and shifty winds. After numerous delays, Race Officer Madeleine was able to provide the fleet with two good light air races. The conditions deteriorated as the afternoon progressed and the fleet was sent back to shore.
The Canadian 2.4mR Class Association AGM was held on the waterside large veranda of PCYC and there were good discussions regarding the upcoming Worlds, the state of the various fleets across Canada and the need for boat inventory. Later Saturday evening, a dinner was held at a local pub and provided a welcomed opportunity for everyone to relax and get caught up on their respective plans for the reminder of the season. The forecasted thunderstorms arrived Saturday evening which brought cool temperatures and more stable weather for Sunday.
Sunday started with light winds that gradually built as the day progressed, resulting in a beautiful day of racing!
Race Officer Madeleine was able to complete three good races which allowed for a drop in the final scoring.
There was a three way tie for first place between Jerry Wendt, John Finch and Bruce Millar. Once the rules of tie-breaking were applied Bruce Millar was declared the winner of the regatta with John Finch placing second and Jerry Wendt placing third. The overall scores are summarized below.

Fleet tradition is to have the awards presented at the drysail crane and this event was no different. Speeches were made, thank you’s expressed and awards were presented. A fleet photo was taken to conclude a fabulous regatta and weekend.
