2.4 Metre Class Canadian Championship

National Yacht Club hosted a fleet of 22 boats on September 19/20/21 for the 2.4 Metre Class Canadian Championship. Competitors from as far away as Florida and British Columbia were impressed by the friendliness and facilities of NYC and promised to be back again. The winner was Jeff Linton of Tampa, Florida, followed by NYC’s Darrell Suderman. Third was Bruce Millar, a member of NYC and Royal Victoria Yacht Club in B.C. Sailing conditions were ideal, including Saturday’s 25-knot easterly with ocean-like waves.

The Race Committee was flawless and with the help of MarkSetBots had perfect starting lines and course alignment, with all 8 races starting on schedule.

This event was the final of a four-regatta 2.4mR summer series at NYC, known as the CAN-AM series — a winter version of which is held in Port Charlotte, Florida. The series was spearheaded by NYC’s Darrell Suderman who, with John Kitchener and Heather Aitken, have made NYC a cornerstone of 2.4 Metre Class sailing in North America.

Next stop for several NYC sailors is the 2.4 Metre Class World Championship in Lake Garda, Italy, in October.

The Royal Victoria Yacht Club hosted the Pacific Coast Championship Regatta on September 5, 6 & 7, 2025.
